The Association of Capital Market Investors – Amec – was established in October 2006 as an initiative by a group of independent and financial institutional investors to defend the rights of minority shareholders and drive the development of the Brazilian stock market.
To achieve such objectives, Amec fosters debates and discussions among its members, following strict internal governance guidelines, including the management of conflicts of interest. The topics are discussed by its Technical Commission and, subsequently submitted for decision by the Executive Board and Advisory Board.
In the eight years since its establishment, the association has become the main discussion forum for institutional investors with regard to corporate governance practices and investors’ rights in Brazilian companies, in line with the most recent international recommendations (such as the Kay Report, from the UK).
At the same time, Amec’s positions have been increasingly recognized among investors, companies and regulatory entities for their relevance and independence.
Today, Amec gathers 63 foreign and local institutional investors with investment mandates of approximately $500 billion Reais in the Brazilian stock market.
