Chilean newspaper reveals internal disputes that threaten Itaú and CorpBanca merger
On March 6, the Chilean Elmostrador newspaper put the merger between Itaú and CorpBanca at stake, claiming internal disputes and issues raised by market participants.
According to the publication, it’s clear that the operation is immaterial for some shareholders and profitable for other ones.
Itaú CEO for Latin America, Ricardo Marino, has stated, in a material fact, that the obligation of both companies to launch a tender offer to the minority shareholders of the company resulting from the merger would be excluded, but the situation has not been defined yet.
The merger was announced one year ago and, since then, minorities shareholders have been against it because they consider it an unfair transaction.
