The selection of the new CEO started in 2018 and had the support of the specialized consulting firm Russell Reynolds Associates
On September 1, Fábio Henrique de Sousa Coelho took over the CEO role of Amec – the Association of Capital Market Investors – following Mauro Rodrigues da Cunha, who has occupied the position for more than seven years. Coelho has worked for Previc – the National Supervisory Authority for Complementary Pension Funds – for the past six years and, since March 2017, he has been the institution’s deputy Superintendent-Director.

As Amec’s CEO, Coelho will address the challenge of raising regulators’ and institutional investors’ awareness of the necessary changes to foster the capital markets and implementing the best corporate governance practices in Brazilian listed companies. To respond to these challenges, he will rely on the representation of Amec’s 62 members.
The association’s Board of Directors started to select the new CEO at the end of 2018. The process had the support of the specialized consulting firm Russell Reynolds Associates, which evaluated more than 30 candidates. In the end of the process, Amec’s Board of Directors elected Fábio Coelho, who has a solid career in the public sector. He has already worked at the Federal Savings Bank and the Central Bank of Brazil and, more recently, as the main regulator of Pension Funds.
For the past two years, Amec’s governance bodies (Advisory Board, Board of Directors and Management Board) have been discussing the convenience of implementing a success plan, along the lines of the best practices that are part of the association’s values.
The then-current CEO, Mauro Rodrigues da Cunha, who has occupied the position for more than seven years, supported the succession process and has greatly and constructively contributed   to the selection of his successor. “Having a new leadership is of utmost importance for an association like Amec, and we are very happy to welcome Fábio and rely on his competence, commitment and credibility to continue the work Amec has been developing since its founding,” Cunha stated. According to him, Fábio Coelho’s values are strongly aligned with the association’s, he understands the importance of the Stewardship agenda and has remarkable capacity to influence a number of players that can positively impact on Amec’s agenda.
