On May 30, Amec was at Funcef’s headquarters, in Brasília, to talk about the Amec Stewardship Code. Funcef was the first pension fund that adhered to the code, in March last year, and now it is implementing the governance enhancements recommended in the document.
“The adherence to the Amec Code shows the governance enhancements that Funcef has been striving to achieve in general terms and especially in the investment sphere,” said Carlos Vieira, President of the fund. Fábio Coelho, substitute Superintendent Director at Previc – the National Superintendence for Pension Funds, – also participated in the event and reinforced the support of the regulator to the Amec Stewardship Code. “Fund management processes must be continuously improved with these safety layers,” he stated.
In his presentation, Mauro Rodrigues da Cunha, Amec’s CEO, emphasized that the code is intended to improve the investment culture without creating new obligations as pension funds are already subject to many regulations. “The Stewardship Code works like a compass, not a prescription. This mindset will only develop in the country when pension funds engage with the topic and encourage it,” said Cunha, who took advantage of the opportunity to meet with Amec’s Working Group responsible for implementing the code in Funcef.
