OECD roundtable focuses on the evolution of the Latin American markets

On June, the OECD promoted another edition of its traditional Meeting of the Latin American Corporate Governance Roundtable. The event, held since 1999 in the region’s countries, is supported by the Government of Spain. This year, the meeting took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
In addition to Amec, Brazil was represented by members of the B3, IBGC, Ministry of Planning, Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission – CVM (by the directors Gustavo Gonzalez and Pablo Renteria), global investors dedicated to the country and other experts in corporate governance issues.
The event was focused on the evolution and challenges facing the region regarding the development of Latin American capital markets.
The hosts were the focal points in the event considering the number and depth of the initiatives that have been implemented in recent months to enhance the Argentine market. The representative of the country’s regulation agency mentioned 15 fronts in which improvements have been made, including the recently approved reform of the corporate law, the end of exchange controls, capital flows and of the regulator’s interference in the company’s boards, the elimination of the tax on capital gains for domestic investors, the possibility of short sales, and the creation of the ETFs, among others.

The 2018 Meeting of the Latin America Corporate Governance Roundtable, held in Argentina by the OECD
